From the camp fields Castlerigg Farm has views of Derwent Water and in the distance Bassenthwaite Lake. The site is a mile and a half from Keswick town centre which is approximately a 25 minute walk down hill. The site is classed as gently sloping with all pitches on grass, cars can be parked next to the pitch and caravan pitches provide electricity. The best views are from the camp fields with caravan pitches lower down closer to the facilities. The furthest tent pitch from the facilities is a 120yrd walk downhill and across grass. No advanced reservations are taken for camping.
Reception is open from 8.30am to 9.30pm. In emergencies, when Reception is closed, there is an intercom located outside Reception door, please note, this facility is for emergencies only and does not provide a 24hr service. The site has a pay phone located beside the static caravan and some mobiles including Orange have network coverage. For security reasons the site gate is closed from 10pm to 8am, walking access is available 24/7. The gate can easily be opened in an emergency and access for visitors with walking difficulties can be arranged, please ask at Reception on arrival.
We have written information for hard of hearing visitors and most Reception staff have been trained to assist people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
The site has a small shop which provides a range of provisions including milk, bread, toiletries, and camping items, in high season we also provide newspapers. Parking is usually available close to all the facilities for visitors with walking disabilities.
The entrance to the toilet block has 3 steps, the toilet block has normal size doors and toilets which may not be suitable for wheelchairs. The shop, laundry room, dish washing room, reception and Cafe/Restaurant are all recently built and have wheelchair access. Dogs are welcome on site but only assistance dogs are allowed inside the facilities.
Between 9am to 7pm there is an hourly bus service in to Keswick. The bus stop is approximately ¼ mile from the site entrance at the end of the lane. The nearest train station is Penrith and a bus can be taken from Keswick to Penrith. Most buses are accessible but it is advisable to check with the bus company on 0871 200 22 33 to confirm the service which suits your needs. Davies Taxis, (telephone 017687 72676) has a specially adapted people carrier for those who need assistance.
The safety of our visitors is important to us, therefore there is a 5 mph speed limit throughout the site.
