Grasmere Sports

Grasmere hosts the largest of the traditional Lakeland sport meetings, featuring Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, hound trails (where trained hounds race after the scent of aniseed over the fells), mountain-bike races and fell races, including the English Hill Championship.

The grand arena also hosts such entertainment as bird-of-prey displays, sheepdog teams, marching bands, more than 150 trade stands, a craft marquee and a special "Made in Cumbria" marquee. For thrills and spills watch the helicopter display, while for the more sedate there is an antique brewery dray to admire.

Borrowdale Shepherd's Meet and Show
Held in the village of Rosthwaite every year.
The Borrowdale Shepherds Meet and Show is held at Rosthwaite on the third Sunday in September from 10 a.m. The event is based on the Traditional Shepherd's meet and has grown in popularity, with both locals and visitors alike, year on year.

In addition to judging of Fell Sheep over many classes there are also competitions for Fell Ponies, Goats, Shepherd's Dogs, Terriers, Foxhounds, Children's pets and Walking Sticks ! Sheepdog trials take place throughout the day and there is also a junior and senior fell race and of course Cumberland & Westmorland wrestling.
