Recently spent 3 nights camping on site - first time campers - not sure what to expect but plesently surprised to find superb location, friendly site staff; met some really nice people and plan to go again. Lovely hot showers, could do with more laundry facilities but perhaps am being picky. A small but perfectly formed area for children to play on. Husband and son really enjoyed experience, nice walk into keswick and to castlerigg stone circle from the site. Fabulous. Big Smile

Just returned from a great 5 day stay at Castlerigg Farm. To be honest the farm site wasn't our intended destination, our original plan was the other site across the lane but on arrival the other site's campfield was wet and the available pitches were on such a slope I could see myself sliding out of the tent door.

Castlerigg Farm was just 50 yards further up the same lane and their campfield is just that little bit higher and was much dryer. The facilities at the farm were lovely and clean, good power showers, a great little shop that sold all the basics and a lot more and a very handy on site cafe which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We found a small pub 50 yards from the campsite entrance which was handy, the pub also did food but it was all vegetarian which was o.k for a change. We also decided to give the restaurant over at the other site a go but the sign on the door said closed till further notice but it didn't inconvenience us as we just went back to the Hayloft.

We walked to Keswick which took us about 25 minutes and for anyone with a wife like mine I suggest you stay out of town as she spent a fortune and bought so much stuff we had to get a taxi back.

All in all a great few days away. One thing we couldn't quite understand was why did the area have a hose pipe ban when it was so wet !!!! Cheers

Just returned from a 4 day stay at Castlerigg, the site is really well kept and the facilities are great, shame the restaurant was closed. Weather was great for the first 2 days and then rained on and off for the next 2 days, did not spoil our stay though, will definitely be returning and would recommend to anyone.

Message from Site Administrator:
Sorry for any inconvenience, the Hayloft Cafe was closed for one evening due to family matters. The Hayloft is now OPEN and back to full service.

This was our third visit to the camp site as a family, although i've been with my parents also (they've got the two white and tan greyhounds Tally and Sky- ref for Doris).
We love this site and this year we camped under the trees, where the view over the lake was fantastic. We always find the staff very friendly especially to our little dog (the Jackadoodle). It was her second camping trip and she did very well, only once escaping to look for her lost mummy in the toilet block Big Smile . Love the 10:30 silence rule. Just one suggestion - a ring of somesort on the wall so that you can tie your dog to it whilst you do the washing up or pop to the loo? Thank you for a fantastic holiday and hope to see you and the campsite soon.

Just had another fantastic week at Castlerigg. This time the weather was also fantastic, who needs to go abroad. The site was immaculately clean & the "no noise" after 10.30pm was adhered to.
A suggestion we would have, is for a ruling on which side of their tent campers should park their cars, it would then give you a space between you & the tent next door.(stops being too cramped & people who turn up late without booking in first pushing in somewhere, which happened when we were there!)
A big thanks to Emma, who let Jack bring Indie in from the field one night,it made his holiday. We hope to see you with a few jumps set up next year in the field or a dressage show!
have a good season.
Cheers Cheers

Just had a fantastic 10 day stay at Castlerigg farm. On arrival we found two sites close together, both sites were called Castlerigg, at first we thought the site on the right of the lane, Castlerigg Hall, was the entrance to both sites but when we enquired we realised the Hall site and the Farm site were separate. We decided to stay at the farm site (on the left of the lane) simply because the available camping pitches at the Hall were on a considerable slope, we also found the main camp field at the Hall site didn't have the spectacular views the Farm site had.

The weather was perfect and so was Castlerigg Farm. The power showers were always hot and the facilities were lovely and clean and well maintained. The site shop was small but like a Tardis as it seemed to have everything we needed. The staff were friendly and helpful and supplied us with bus and launch time tables. From our tent we could see two lakes, Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite Lake, the surrounding mountains were too numerous to name and the colours on the mountains changed with the time of day.

A mile and a half from Keswick we found the site ideally situated and easy to pop in to town or to walk up the mountains without using the car, during our 10 day stay we only used the car 4 times. We enjoyed several meals in the on site Hayloft cafe, the interior of the cafe is fantastic, old oak beams, stone walls, log fire and the food was far above what you would expect on a small camp site.

We loved the 10.30pm silence rule, just to relax and hear nothing except the odd sheep and the Owl who we nicknamed "Olli" (not very original) but we heard him twit twooing most nights, it really did recharged our batteries.

Would we visit again, most definitely. Big Smile Big Grin Cheers

We have just had a wonderful 5 day holiday at Castlerigg Farm and enjoyed one of the hottest weekends in May. For 2 days we sat outside our tent and just enjoyed the amazing views, what a marvellous place.

The facilities were very clean and checked on a regular basis, the on site shop supplied bread, milk, newspapers and a lot of other items which saved us travelling in to Keswick every day. We didn't need to use the laundry facilities but the site had a commercial washer and dryer and even an iron. The appearance of the site was tidy and the grass looked like a large well kept lawn, the staff were busy planting flowers and we found all the staff to be friendly and willing to help with information about the area and local walks.

We loved the site rule of silence after 10.30pm and we saw the Wardens out in the camp fields at night to make sure everyone was quiet and it works, this site looks after their visitors.

We had 2 lovely meals in the on site Hayloft cafe/restaurant and on our next visit we will remember we can bring our own wine. The food was to a high standard and the interior of the Hayloft was wonderful (we could very happily live there). The log fire wasn't lit because it was too warm but on a cold day I bet it would be fantastic. The upstairs eating area was amazing with old oak beams and stone walls, obviously a lot of thought has been put in to the layout and ambiance of the building and it works perfectly.

What else can I say except to say a very big THANK YOU to everyone at Castlerigg Farm who helped us have a fantastic holiday, we will definitely be back.

Just returned home from a wonderful weekend at Castlerigg farm. This was our first visit and it will not be our last, the site is so well run and they do uphold the silence after 10.30pm rule as we found out.

On arrival we were told about the silence rule and the first night was wonderfully quiet. Unfortunately the following night we were woke at 2.30am by our neighbours who had just arrived back to the site and didn't have a care for the rest of us who were sleeping. They laughed and chatted but at 3pm the warden appeared and with no uncertainty told them to be quiet. The following morning the site owner had a word with the couple and made it clear there wouldn't be a second night of noise and there wasn't. Well done site Wardens.

The Wardens were always around, never interfering but there if needed and very polite and helpful. The site was tidy and the facilities were lovely and clean.

It rained on Saturday and we found the laundry room was a bonus to dry our wet things, there was also a hot drinks machine in the laundry room which was very handy. The on site shop provided us with fresh milk, bread and the daily newspaper and we had 3 lovely meals in the Hayloft Cafe which were well above standard and more than you expect from a campsite cafe. It was lovely to see a log burning fire in the cafe, so cosy and welcoming.

All in all one of the best run sites we have been to. Oh and I forgot to mention the exceptional views.
Well done Castlerigg farm and all who work there.
Cheers
