1. What do camp sites mean when they say "No Noise", read on to find out more.
2. Modern Technology, its great when it works.
3. Donations to Air Ambulance.
1. Here at Castlerigg Farm we have a rule of "No Noise after 10.30pm". We explain this rule to all visitors and some say, oh yes we know about the No Noise rule as "so and so's" site has the same rule. The question is, does the No Noise rule mean the same at every site. Read on to find out more.
We asked a lot of our regular campers why they keep coming back to us, there were many reasons but one of the main attractions of the site seems to be the "No Noise after 10.30pm" policy. It appears most of our visitors want assurance of a good nights sleep, they don't want club houses, they don't want midnight BBQ's and parties or loud music, they dont want people coming in late from the pub drunk and waking them up and they definitely don't want to hear the life history of people in neighbouring tents.
We were told by many of our campers that there's nothing more annoying when you want a good nights sleep and all you can hear is the people in the next tent continually talking, voices don't have to be loud to be irritating.
Isn't it funny how we think canvas is sound proof, we all know it isn't but once behind that thin piece of material some people forget. We made the decision to make it clear to all visitors that after 10.30pm if voices can be heard from one unit to the next it is classed as noise and is unacceptable. We realise this isn't some peoples idea of camping but at least it offers visitors a choice, if you like the rules then feel welcome, if not feel free to ask about other sites in the area.
Most people follow our rules, there can be the odd person who forgets, just doesn't realise how their voices carry, or the very rare person who thinks the rule does not apply to them and this is when we give a friendly reminder which we hope is heeded.
When we have to give a reminder most people thank us as they honestly don't realise their voices could be heard, others say "were only talking" and the truth is, they probably are only talking, the problem is, the surrounding tents don't want to hear them.
We want all our visitors to enjoy their holidays and to achieve this it is important to us to make sure everyone finds a site that meets their requirements. Keswick has a site for most tastes, most have a "No Noise" rule but now I have explained what we call "No Noise" do you still think all sites mean the same thing ?

2. Technology is a wonderful thing but it can also be annoying when it doesn't work how you think it should.
At the beginning of this year we were spending so much time sifting through spam e-mail's and no matter how careful we thought we had been some essential e-mail's were deleted. The solution was to have some kind of spam filter fitted and it worked, the problem was it worked too well.
Yesterday we received a phone call from one of our regular visitors informing us they hoped to visit the site next week, the conversation came around to our web pages and how they had left a comment and why wasn't it there for all to see. Alarm bells began to ring and it occurred to us we hadn't received any comments for a long while. We phoned the company who provide us with all our computer needs and when they checked, sure enough lots of e-mail's were stuck in the great blue yonder of wherever e-mail's get stuck. Quite a lot of e-mail's hadn't been received, in fact 2,573. Seeing 2,573 e-mail's arrived all at once is a bit overwhelming for anyone so apologies to those of you who sent e-mail's and got no reply. We intend to sift through them all but it could take a while.

3. Once again a big THANK YOU to everyone who gave donations over the past 12 months to Air Ambulance, a total of £900 was raised for this worthy cause. A cheque was presented to Air Ambulance in June, take a look at the photograph located uner Photo Gallery, Harrison Family Picturs.

The amazingly good weather has meant its been great for camping. This year we have noticed a lot of new campers and hopefully the good weather has encouraged visitors to make camping a regular part of their holidays. Hopefully the weather will stay dry and we will see some of you soon.
