It is important to help all visitors have a happy, safe and secure holiday at Castlerigg Farm. Please take the time to read ALL our rules and information, this will help ensure we are the kind of site you are looking for. ............................................................................................................................................................................... Castlerigg Farm Camping & Caravan Site is situated in a particular beautiful and quiet part of the Lake District. Several years ago we made the decision to offer visitors the opportunity to stay on a quiet site. We made the rule of "Silence between 10.30pm and 7am". If everyone follows this rule it assures visitors of a good nights sleep.
It is important to make sure all our visitors are aware of this rule then there are no misunderstandings and everyone enjoys a pleasant holiday.
To help us achieve silence we ask all visitors to be aware that if they enter the site after 10.30pm vehicles should be parked outside the site main gate, (this is still site property), and walk quietly to their pitches, remembering, as they walk past tents and caravans to have consideration for fellow visitors who may be asleep.
Please be aware, we do mean Silence after 10.30pm, voices do not have to be loud to be irritating. After 10.30pm if voices can be heard from one unit to the next this is classed as noise and is unacceptable.
If the Site Warden has to ask visitors to keep their voices down please respect the request.
Small Considerations DO make a difference.
After 10.30pm please don't talk as you walk past other peoples units. Look after children, remember if they are awake before 7am fellow campers may still be asleep. If you need to talk on your mobile phone, remember after 10.30pm your neighbours don't want to hear your conversation. Most importantly, please remember, Canvas Isn't Soundproof.
No loud music at any time.
Please ask for more information regarding generators.
The following statement may sound unnecessary but due to visitor comments we have to point out that some noises are out of our control. We are situated in the countryside and therefore visitors must accept noise from sheep or dogs from the neighbouring farm (approximately 1/2 mile away). We are also not responsible for babies crying or people snoring.
We are a family site for couples and families, sorry, no all male or all female groups. We do not encourage couples or families to group together as this has the potential for noise.
Sorry, no reservations are taken for camping, camping is on a first come, first served basis. We can not reserve pitches or allow visitors to save pitches or put up tents for family and friends arriving later, even if they plan to share your unit.
Camping reservations are taken for school groups doing D of E awards but not on Bank Holiday weekends.
Reservations are taken for caravans or motor homes on electric pitches. Sorry we do not have hook-up pitches for tents or trailer tents. Deposits are none refundable.
Castlerigg Farm is run by the Harrison family who live on site. To enter the site everyone has to pass the family living quarters, all visitors are asked to remember this and enter the site quietly after 10.30pm.
We do not provide a 24 hour service. If a guest requires emergency assistance outside opening times a contact service is available via intercom located outside Reception door. A pay phone is on site and is located beside the static caravan at the site entrance.
Consideration for fellow guests, family and site staff is always appreciated.
Reception is open from 8am to 9.30pm and last registration on to site is 9pm to 9.30pm depending on time of season.
The site shop adjoins Reception and has its own opening times, when the shop is closed shop items can not be purchased via Reception. Items being charged, gas exchange, or change for showers can only be obtained during shop opening times.
To keep the site quiet and secure we close the main gates at 10pm. Although the main gate closes and vehicles are discouraged from entering the site after this time we are happy to make arrangements for people with walking difficulties, or other genuine reasons, to bring their vehicles on to site. Please ask at Reception for details of late entry.
The gate opens each morning at 8am, an emergency exit for vehicles is available at all times. It is possible to leave the site in your vehicle before 8am, just ask at Reception for more information. Access on foot too and from the site is possible at all times.
A bus service between Keswick and Ambleside passes the lane end every hour and runs between 9am and 7pm. From Keswick you can take a connecting bus to Penrith where you will find the nearest train station. For more information on bus times Tel: 0871 200 22 33. Davies Taxis also run a service too and from Keswick, for more information Tel: 017687 72676.
The site offers campers spectacular panoramic views from the camp field, touring caravan pitches are lower down and do not provide the same views of the lake. The camp field is classes as gently sloping, all hook-up pitches are on grass some units may require leveling blocks.
Please help us to look after the grass. All awnings must have fully breathable ground sheets, anything on the grass must be on legs to allow the grass to breath. To protect the ground during rainy weather it may be necessary for visitor to park their vehicles on the hard road inside the camp field and walk to their units. Our ground drains very easily but in wet weather please ask and we will provide assistance to help move your caravan BEFORE damaging the grass.
We allow well behaved dogs but they must be on a lead at all times and accompanied by an adult. Small BBQ's are allowed but must be clear of the ground to avoid burning the grass. NO Fires.
The site is situated in the countryside, we are not on mains water and therefore have to carefully monitor our water supply. To save water we use push top taps and charge 50p for power showers, (there is no charge for any other water). We ask all visitors to make sure taps have stopped running before they leave the buildings and supervise children to avoid water wastage. During school holidays and Bank Holidays the site can be busy, if everyone decides to shower at the same time there will be queues, at busy times it is advisable to stagger shower times.
Safety and security for our visitors is important to us, we have a 5mph speed limit throughout the site, parents are advised to supervise children at all times. Anyone entering the site, even day visitors or visitors staying for a few minutes must inform Reception before they enter any part of the site. Anyone entering the site to visit friends must vacate the site no later than 9.30pm. Some parking is available outside the site gates but this is for site patrons only, not for day visitors.
The front of the toilet block is a pedestrian area, for safety reasons no vehicles, bicycles, skateboards etc are allowed in this area. For safety reasons we do not allow children to ride bikes or play on the road in the area at the front of Reception.
We try to be as helpful as possible, if these rules are unsuitable for your needs or you require more information please contact us.
If you need any help or assistance during your visit we are only too happy to do what we can to make your stay a pleasant one.
Thank you in advance for your co-operation.
